If you're severely allergic to gluten, make sure to call ahead to make sure the business can safely accommodate your needs.

Here's our roundup of the best gluten-free restaurants and bakeries in Bellingham.

In addition to gluten-free bread from Great Harvest Bread Company, this popular breakfast spot in downtown Bellingham serves up a large selection of delicious breakfast items that are naturally free of gluten. Choose from a variety of omelettes, tofu scrambles, and egg & potato dishes. You can also opt to have your meal served with corn tortillas instead of toast. And if your meal comes with a biscuit, you can get a gluten-free corn muffin instead.

In addition to serving only vegan fare, Wild Oat Bakery & Cafe has a variety of gluten-free options available. Breakfast sandwiches can be served on gluten-free bread (and you can opt for gluten-free toast with other breakfast items). For lunch, they offer a wide selection of burgers and sandwiches; on any of them, you can opt for a gluten-free bun or bread. They also use organic ingredients and products whenever possible.

Though the cafe does its best to avoid cross contamination, they do use wheat products in their facility. If you have strict dietary restrictions, let your server know and they will do what they can to accommodate your needs!

Choose from a variety of gluten-free options like the BBQ tofu or curry bowl, or make your meal gluten-free on request! All of the restaurant's bowls and burgers can be made gluten-free.

Best way to avoid gluten? Eat meat and veggies. Luckily, that's what Carnal does best. What began as a popular Brooklyn food tent is now a bustling restaurant in downtown Bellingham. Choose from veggie-forward starters and meaty mains like the slow cooked bone-in beef short rib.

This sophisticated pizza spot is located in Fairhaven Village, just steps away from the South Bay trail leading to Taylor Dock. For a small fee, you can upgrade any of Ovn's pizza to come with a gluten-free crust. The wood-fired pizza restaurant has one of the tastiest gluten-free crusts in town. Beyond this, their cream-based béchamel sauce is gluten-free, so you can enjoy any white sauce pizza on the menu. Finish off your meal with a gluten-free lemon bar.

You don't have to stay at Semiahmoo Resort to enjoy incredible seaside dining at Packers Kitchen & Bar. The restaurant is open to the public and serves up fresh seafood, burgers, salads, sandwiches, and more. Their menu offers a handful of gluten-less options, like their roasted garlic fries, house-made chips, boneless chicken bites, butter basted steak, and cedar plank wild salmon. And don't forget about their oysters, served on the half-shell.

Located in the countryside outside Bellingham, this restaurant offers epic views of the mountains and a delicious menu featuring Southern-inspired farm-to-table food. The chef is gluten-free, so he strives to make as many dishes sans-gluten as possible. All of the fried food (including French fries, fried shrimp, and fried green tomatoes) are breaded with rice flour, so you can still enjoy Southern comfort classics without the gluten. You can also opt to have any sandwich served on a gluten-free bun from Shambala Bakery. Some desserts are gluten-free, too.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
