Hotel Motel Taxes Demystified, June 14

Is your organization a current recipient of hotel motel tax grant funds? Ever wonder if you should apply for a grant through these funds? Do you know what the criteria is for the selection process? Or are you a hotel, motel, campground, B&B, or short-term rental property such as Airbnb that collects and remits lodging taxes to the State? Bellingham Whatcom County Tourism will host an educational program on Thursday, June 14, 2018 titled Hotel Motel Taxes Demystified. The meeting, which includes a hot lunch, will be Thursday, June 14, 2018, from 11:30 – 1:00 p.m. at the Silver Reef Hotel in Ferndale, WA, and costs $18 per person. A panel of experts including Tara Sundin, City of Bellingham; Debbie Harger, City of Blaine; Tawni Helms, Whatcom County; Becky Bogard, Bogard & Johnson LLC of Olympia will talk about the State RCW that governs the collection and use of hotel motel taxes, and answer questions about the application process, who is eligible to receive funds, deadlines, and reporting requirements. Must register and pay in advance. To register go to: bit.ly/2018HotelMotelTax or for more information call 360-671-3990 ext. 204.  Please arrive early (doors open at 11:00 a.m.) to sign in and have a look around the Silver Reef Hotel Casino Spa.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
