Virtual Viking Night Set for Wednesday, September 15

The Western Washington University Department of Athletics will hold the annual Viking Night Fundraiser virtually for the second consecutive year in 2021.

Virtual Viking Night will be held on Wednesday, September 15 starting at 7 pm. Registration is free for the event, with a ZOOM link sent to all participants prior to the start of the online fundraiser.

Viking Night has been a tradition at WWU for over 30 years and is a key fundraiser supporting the 15 varsity intercollegiate programs through student-athlete scholarships and overall program support.

Due to the continual impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and the concern of large groups gathering indoors, it was agreed to host the event online again.

Despite the hardships all schools and athletic departments have gone through over the last 18 months, WWU’s unwavering commitment to the student-athlete experience remains unchanged, and a major component is scholarship and program support.

“We are thankful and fortunate that a number of our teams were able to return to competition last spring, and already off to a great start this fall with our student-athletes returning safely to campus and to competition,” said WWU Director of Athletics Steve Card. “Through the unwavering support by so many people that care about WWU Athletics – alumni, families, friends – our student-athletes have been able to achieve the pinnacle of success in competition, the classroom and in the community. We look forward to a great night online celebrating our teams and can’t wait to get back in Carver Gym in the near future to hold this great event in person.”

Virtual Viking Night is a hosted online event that will feature the following:

  • Online auction throughout the week
  • Manca Valum and Chris Roselli hosting the event live
  • Hear from WWU Director of Athletics Steve Card
  • Student-Athlete speakers Malia Aleaga and Alessandro Tomasi
  • Alumni Testimonials
  • Fund-A-Need
  • Highlight Video
  • Student-Athlete Videos

Registration for 2021 Virtual Viking Night is available online via WWUVikings.com/VikingNight. The event will help our student-athletes continue their success in competition and in the classroom on their way towards the ultimate goal of graduation.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
