Whatcom Community College receives Career Launch endorsement for new software development degree

Whatcom Community College (WCC)’s new software development associate in applied science degree has been endorsed by the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) as a “Career Launch” program. This endorsement recognizes WCC’s curriculum as meeting the highest standards of rigor and aligned with local industry needs. This endorsement also recognizes paid internships as a core element. Students in the program can earn money and college-level credit, while preparing for their career.

The new online software development associate in applied science degree is a technical program designed to prepare students to meet industry demand in the rapidly growing field. Students gain high-demand skills in back-end and front-end computer programming, web programming, computer architecture, database design, programming for mobile devices, and more. WCC’s new program will prepare students for high-wage and high-demand software development jobs that will increase the pipeline of qualified talent within our local workforce. The new software development degree launches this fall quarter and enrollment is already open. Learn more at www.whatcom.edu/softwaredev.

The recent endorsement was supported by WCC’s industry partners who provided critical guidance in the development of the new curriculum and have committed to paid internship opportunities for students. Industry partners include Alpha Technologies Services, Inc. (an EnerSys company), Emergency Reporting, Faithlife LLC., Korber Supply Chain, and Samson Rope Technologies.
