Lookout Sessions: Mary Gauthier with special guest Jaimee Harris

Hailed by the Associated Press as “one of the best songwriters of her generation,” Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Mary Gauthier has presented extraordinary confessional songs - deeply personal, profoundly emotional pieces – for over 25 years.

Now, with her eleventh album, Dark Enough to See the Stars, Gauthier has employed her art to traverse the uncharted waters of the past few years. Dark follows her profound exploration of trauma made in collaboration with wounded Iraq war veterans, Rifles & Rosary Beads, which garnered a Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album, as well as a nomination for Album of the Year by the Americana Music Association.

Mary published her first book, Saved by a Song: The Art and Healing Power of Songwriting, in 2021.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
