Travelogue: Modern Day Western Turkey - The Epicenter of Ancient Cultures

Join Bellingham Parks & Recreation for a free presentation with guest speaker Bob Kandiko in the Rotunda Room of Old City Hall. “Everyday in Turkey will blow your mind”: This simple suggestion was the seed that led to a month-long exploration of Western Turkey. From the call to prayer echoing between mosques in Istanbul, to the Ancient Greek temples, to kayaking and hiking the Lycian Way on the Mediterranean, to trekking and biking under the rock towers of Cappadocia. It really did blow our minds! Join Bob Kandiko as he takes us on an exhilarating journey through the epicenter of ancient cultures.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
