Join RE Sources for Sustainable Communities and Port of Bellingham for their second fast-and-furious trash cleanup south of Squalicum Beach in Bellingham!
The cleanup takes place by a breakwater that tends to accumulate lots of marine debris, including plastic waste, which is a growing problem worldwide. Plastic contamination has been found in everything from drinking water to oysters to craft beer. Let’s make a difference in the most immediate way we can: in our own local beaches! Last time, nearly 70 volunteers filled a four-yard dumpster in just an hour.
Cleanup equipment, snacks, coffee and tea will be provided. Please wear shoes suitable for walking on uneven surfaces.
Volunteers can park at the Squalicum Beach Park Parking on Seaview Ave. Parking is limited, so carpooling is encouraged.
