Whatcom Art Guild presents: Sempervirens — a digital exhibition!

Since its founding in 1964, the Whatcom Art Guild (WAG) has aimed to provide its members with exhibition opportunities to display and sell their artwork, an environment to exchange ideas and information, and lessons in art making and promotion practices, as a means to foster the arts of Whatcom County. Therefore, to help ameliorate current art display restrictions, WAG has organized a digital exhibition entitled Sempervirens to spread awareness about local, active artists.

The show’s title is inspired by the Latin sense of the word. Sempervirens literally translates as “always verdant,” or “always alive” (semper “always” + virens “verdant”), and in English “sempervirens” has been translated to “evergreen.”

The selection of the name Sempervirens is twofold: 1) Washington State is the evergreen state, and the artists shown are currently working in the state of Washington 2) These Washingtonian artists — despite recent events — have proven to be a lot like the evergreen foliage that surrounds them; consistently full of life, no matter the present (and sometimes extremely harsh) conditions they endure.

Hence, to acknowledge the great work our local artists continue to produce, WAG proudly presents a digital exhibition bursting with splendid examples of its guild member’s latest creations!
