The Whatcom Museum’s Low-Sensory Sundays are designed for children ages 12 and younger with autism spectrum and other sensory-processing disorders. In place of an in-person Low-Sensory Sunday, the Whatcom Museum will offer a low-sensory digital kit and a virtual live book reading via Zoom.
The low-sensory digital kit will consist of a FIG (Family Interactive Gallery) at Home activity dedicated to low sensory, one printable worksheet, and a recording of the book reading (for those who cannot attend the live session and/or want to access the book reading again).
The live Zoom storytime will last 30-minutes and will be led by a museum educator. The educator will read Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andreae and illustrated by Guy Parker-Rees, and will take pauses throughout the book to engage the viewers with interactive prompts about the book. After the storytime, families are invited to play a short game relating to the book.
