Event Details:

Every year during Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup, hundreds of thousands of volunteers in 100 countries comb lakes, rivers, and beaches for trash. Over the course of 30 years, more than 9 million volunteers have collected nearly 164 million pounds of trash.

Join this global movement at a local beach cleanup, in one of two locations as part of Whatcom Water Week, alongside RE Sources, Whatcom Marine Resources Committee, Northwest Straits Surfrider Chapter, and Ocean Conservancy. Trash bags and gloves provided. Please dress appropriately for walking along the beach. We clean up both of these beaches and tally up marine debris data to enter into the global international coastal cleanup database to help us better understand what trash we’re finding on our beaches.

Light snacks and refreshments will be provided along with cleanup equipment — just bring yourself and dress for the weather on the beach!

LOCATIONS (Both cleanups are 10AM – 12PM)
– Semiahmoo Spit: Meet us at the parking lot on your first left when you get to the park. Look out for sandwich board signs to help find your way.

– Locust Beach (Locust Ave, Bellingham). Parking lot on the right off Locust Ave.

RSVP is encouraged but not required. Contact Eleanor Hines at eleanorh@re-sources.org for more info or to RSVP.
