It’s time for Super Bowl 51, and for all of us Seattle Seahawks fans, it’s more than a little disappointing that we won’t be in the big game. But, there’s always next season, right? And by now, we’ve had enough time to accept our fate and work up some excitement for Super Bowl Sunday. Sure, the level of enthusiasm won’t be the same for us 12s, but it will still be a fun day at Whatcom County bars and breweries.
So where will all the Atlanta Falcons, New England Patriots and other NFL fans gather on February 7 to watch the Super Bowl and drink tasty beverages? I’ve put together a handy guide to some of the best beer, cocktail and snack specials for you.
Where to Watch Super Bowl 51
Downtown Bellingham
Boundary Bay Brewery will be showing the game in the Tap Room, as always, but also in the Bistro this year. That’s good news for families, since the Tap Room is 21+, while the Bistro welcomes all ages. If you’re watching at home or hitting a friend’s party, Boundary Bay can make you a star. Just pick up a growler and a big ol’ pan of its famous mac ‘n cheese, ready to bake in your oven. I did this last year and it was the hit of the party!
Aslan Brewing Co. will be serving their 100% organic brews (even an amazing non-alcoholic beer) along with their regular (and delicious) menu that seems to cover everyone’s tastes.
Chuckanut Brewery and Kitchen is offering many different tasty options on their menu for Superbowl. They will also have Happy Hour during the whole game. Be sure to check out their Bellingham location for further specials, located at 601 West Holly St, Bellingham.
Wander Brewing is a family friendly and dog-friendly brew hall. As family owned and independent in Downtown Bellingham, they are always known to have soccer and football games on a large screen projector.
Kulshan Brewing and K2 Brewery are great places to get beers to go if you’re looking for a place to stop before the party.
Beyond Downtown
Slo Pitch Sports Grill is planning for a big crowd and they’ll have plenty of specials to make it Super fun. Try a Super Bloody Slider (a Bloody Mary with a slider? Yes, please!), a Carolina pulled pork sandwich, a Denver sandwich or the Touchdown appetizer sampler.
McKays Taphouse and Pizzeria is always a classic place to watch sports games. As always, they offer Whatcom county’s largest 26″ pizza for $26, if you’d like it for delivery or to enjoy it during the game. They will also offer a mimosa Sunday special for the game, in addition to other beer and pizza specials.
Hop N Headz, is a neighborhood taphouse and grill that offers rotating craft beers and a pub style menu. For this weekend they will be offering all day happy hour specials, as well as a double-smoked stadium dog as a food special.
Fairhaven
Dos Padres, located in Fairhaven will be having all day specials for Super Bowl. As well as happy hour specials that include half-off certain dishes and cocktails.
Blaine
Semiahmoo Resort will be showing the game on their 138-foot theater screen—so if you want to watch the big game on a BIG screen, you’re covered! Or, choose from Packers Oyster Bar’s selection of local and regional brews, lovely wines by the glass and expertly-mixed cocktails. 9565 Semiahmoo Pkwy., Blaine, WA. 360-318-2090
Where to Grab or Fill a Growler in Bellingham
Having a party at your house? Don’t forget to fill a growler on the way, so you’ll be invited back next year! And just a reminder that you should probably bring a pan of Boundary Bay’s famous mac ‘n cheese, too (see above).
Kulshan Brewing Company Grab one of Kulshan’s delicious brews in ready-to-go growlers and pills (counter-pressure-filled, even!). Or escape the whole Super Bowl thing by hanging out with like-minded friends, or a pint and a book in Kulshan’s quiet taproom. 2238 James St. Bellingham, WA. 360-389-5348.
Wander Brewing opens at noon for filling a growler, or picking up a 750 ml bottle or two. Have a pint of one of their amazing brews while you’re there. I hear the Shoe Toss IPA is back on! Oh, and the game will be on in the brew hall. 1807 Dean Ave. Bellingham, WA. 360-647-6152
Chuckanut Brewery will be offering happy hour through the entire game, and it’s a great place to bring the kids. Or fill up your growler with one of their award-winning brews. 601 W Holly St. Bellingham, WA 360-752-3377
The Green Frog always has 25+ taps with microbrews and ciders flowing. Filling growlers at 1015 North State St. Bellingham, WA.
Elizabeth Station Check out what’s on their 16 beer and 12 cider taps here, and if you’re in need of a keg of something special, call ES at 360-733-8982 for pre-game pickup. 1400 W. Holly St. Bellingham, WA.
