The road to stardom is paved with hard knocks and broken dreams in a special summer treat as Bellingham welcomes the delicious west-coast premiere of a new comedy. This summer Western Summer Theatre presents “Angel Food Cake,” a comedy by award-winning playwright Kelli Lynn Woodend about life, love, dreams and music. “Angel Food Cake” premieres at the Douglas UnderGround Theater at Western Washington University August 23 through 27. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Wed – Sat, and 2 p.m. Sun.
After Nashville crushes her country music dreams, Jean returns home to find the man she left behind. When she discovers he’s engaged, she is forced to rely on her deliriously dysfunctional family to help her put the pieces of her life back together.
“This is a hilarious play, and it features some of the finest professional actors you’re likely to see anywhere. Bringing a west-coast premiere with such an excellent cast to Bellingham is a real treat, and we can’t wait to share this experience with audiences,” director Evan Mueller said. “It’s a show for anyone who has ever struggled with a relationship, cringed their way through a family dinner, or fought for their dreams.”
Kelli Lynn Woodend has written scripts for Emmy Award-winning documentaries and her plays have been produced in New York, Boston, and Albuquerque.
