Cascadia Film Festival Delivers a World of Women’s Stories

5th annual festival is bringing home the full festival experience!

CASCADIA International Women’s Film Festival is gearing up for its 5th year of bringing quality films directed by women all over the world to viewers in Bellingham and beyond. The festival, which is usually held in downtown Bellingham each April and was “re-envisioned” following 2020’s COVID shutdowns, will again be shown online this year May 13 through 22. But organizers say that won’t stop them from providing a full festival experience.

Viewers will be able to stream outstanding films from women directors all over the world to their home computer or device as well as meet and talk with directors, and go behind the scenes of filmmaking, such as with CASCADIA’s popular Script Studio workshop.

Executive Director Cheryl Crooks said this year’s festival will show about 30 films of different lengths and genres. This year’s films include features, short films, animated films, documentaries and narrative films. Films by students, emerging directors and Indigenous women are also in the mix.

Crooks said the festival’s goal is to entertain and delight film lovers and create a platform that showcases the talent and stories women filmmakers have to offer. Crooks added that all films are exclusively directed by women, making CASCADIA one of only a handful in the United States to do so.

“CASCADIA is films but it’s also so much more,” Crooks said. “It’s networking, sharing stories, making new friends, exploring new worlds, exchanging ideas and viewing exceptional films.”

Festival passes will be on sale May 1 and passholders will receive an email with a link and password during the festival. More information will be available soon on the CASCADIA website at www.cascadiafilmfest.org.

CASCADIA International Women’s Film Festival, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and showcasing the work of women filmmakers, was formed in Bellingham, Washington, in 2015. The organization also works year-round to provide film production, exhibition, and distribution education. More information about CASCADIA may be found on their website at www.cascadiafilmfest.org.
