First Federal Community Foundation presented a check for $50,000 to Habitat for Humanity in Whatcom County to support the construction of the 52-unit Telegraph Townhomes in Bellingham. Habitat for Humanity in Whatcom County recently announced the formation of the Habitat Kulshan Project, LLC in partnership with Kulshan Community Land Trust, for the purpose of building 52 affordable homes for low-income working adults and families.
“First Federal is pleased to join Habitat for Humanity in Whatcom County and the dynamic partnerships it has created in order to bring this project to life,” said Foundation Executive Director, Karen McCormick. “Telegraph Townhomes will provide decent, safe and affordable homes for those who need it the most.”
Located on two and a half acres in Bellingham, Telegraph Townhomes feature energy-efficient design, community gardens and play areas, and close proximity to public transportation, jobs, and schools. Construction is anticipated to begin in the summer of 2017. “We are thrilled and deeply grateful for the $50,000 grant we received from the First Federal Community Foundation,” said Fred Sheppard, Resource Development Manager for Habitat for Humanity in Whatcom County. “We hope that the confidence and trust that the Foundation has demonstrated in us acts as an inspiration for others to follow. Thank you, First Federal.”
