This summer Make Shift in Bellingham, WA will be offering two educational workshop classes for our communities youth, Writers toolbox and The Present Sense. Both workshops aim to inspire, nudge and guide others through the creative process. Writers toolbox is a free event every Tuesday and Friday, starting on June 14th, with award winning hip hop artist Rick Chyme. Chyme has worked in the music industry for 16 years and has collaborated as a youth educator for the program “Be Nice.” Over the course of this three week workshop, children and adults will explore the tools and exercises necessary to spark creativity. Doing so through, meditation, free writing, cut ups and group collaboration. This free workshop will be available to anyone over nine and also includes a ticket to the Pickford Film center and the Spark Museum. RSVP for Writers Toolbox through makeshiftproject.com The Present Sense is a one-hour mindful sensory class offered by instructor Siena Reynolds, for children ages 5-8. This workshop aims to explore the 5 senses and strengthen the mind through art, music, dance, meditation tips, coloring, and exploring various perspectives and physical sensations. This workshop is free for a limited time, RSVP through Facebook at thepresentsense.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
