Read Thirst and attend virtual events with author Heather “Anish” Anderson Oct. 1 – 10, 2020

Looking for inspiration during this time at home? Whatcom County Library System’s Read & Share has the solution. For its second annual countywide reading program, WCLS staff selected thru-hiking legend Heather “Anish” Anderson’s memoir of adventure and discovery, Thirst: 2600 Miles to Home. Check out the book at local libraries. It’s also available as a downloadable eBook or eAudiobook from the WCLS catalog. Then, join the author’s inspiring presentations and community conversations via Zoom, Oct. 1-10, 2020. Find more information, including how to register, at wcls.org/readandshare.

In Thirst, Anderson, a former Bellingham resident who is known as “Anish” on the trail, shares the thrilling, reflective story of her record-setting, self-supported Fastest Known Time (FKT) on the Pacific Crest Trail. She’ll share lessons she’s learned along the way and encourage exploration in five free online events. Registration (one per household) is required for the Zoom programs. Space is limited. A Zoom link will be sent before each program.

“We hope Heather’s book and the free online author presentations inspire community and personal exploration,” says WCLS Adult Programming Coordinator Ann McAllen. “In the past, library events like this would have happened live at our branches. COVID has challenged our normal operations, but we’ve found we can create connection and stimulate great book conversations online. We’re thrilled to host Heather and to introduce local readers to her book. We hope our community will join us in as we welcome her back – virtually – to Whatcom County.”
