Sustainable Connections, located in Bellingham Washington, is hosting a virtual watch party of the film Wasted! The Story of Food Waste, Thursday, June 4 to highlight the Food Recovery Program.
Wasted! The Story of Food Waste follows chef-heroes like the late Anthony Bourdain as they explore how reducing food waste can lead to new ways of using more food, feeding more people, and curbing environmental damage. The virtual watch party will provide a free, at-home screening of the film to viewers who register online through the Sustainable Connections website.

Viewers are encouraged to tune in at 6:30 p.m. PDT for a welcome and introduction from Mark Peterson, Sustainable Business & Food Recovery Program Manager at Sustainable Connections, but are also able to watch the film any time before Friday, June 5 at 6:30 p.m. PDT. After the film, viewers can join the post-movie discussion and take a quiz about the movie for a chance to win a prize pack featuring a $25 gift card to The RE Store, a copy of the book Cooking with Scraps: Turn Your Peels, Cores, Rinds, and Stems Into Delicious Meals by author Lindsay-Jean Hard, and more.
Local restaurants who regularly donate to Sustainable Connections’ Food Recovery Program will also be offering specials specifically for the event, such as Aslan Brewing Company, Boundary Bay Brewery & Bistro, Casa Que Pasa, Cosmos Bistro, and Crave Catering. The first 20 households to register for the virtual watch party will receive $10 off a virtual watch party special of their choice, valid only for the
evening of Thursday, June 4.

The Food Recovery Program rescues tens-of-thousands of pounds of prepared foods each year from businesses and organizations in Whatcom County in order to provide meals for community members experiencing food insecurity while also diverting food from the community’s waste stream.
