Sensory Workshop: Tree and Flower Identification with Northwest Natura

Come take a walk in a beautiful forest to identify trees and flowers by not only their features, but they’re textures and aromas. You do not need your vision to get to know the trees and flowers, as you’ll find in this unique course led by Salish Sea Naturalist and botanist, Jazmen Yoder. In this sensory-focused course we’ll spend the day immersed in riverside habitat with our feet in the cool waters of Boulder Creek while we identify different flowers and trees by their unique effects on our senses. If you are looking for a mental health day this one is designed to be slow-paced and meditative.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
