Fairhaven Outdoor Cinema summer lineup offers fun films under the stars

Comedy, adventure and animated movies are all included in the 2017 Fairhaven Outdoor Cinema schedule presented by Ben Kinney & Keller Williams Realty in Bellingham, WA. Now in its 18th season of Saturday night movies, the series kicks off on June 24, 2017, with the 1984 comedy “Ghostbusters” followed by the 2016 blockbuster hit “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” on July 1. This event offers more than just movies - the Fairhaven Outdoor Cinema includes a selection of live music, dance and circus style entertainment throughout the series. Movies are shown on the 30-foot screen at the Village Green in the historic Fairhaven community of south Bellingham. Events are rain or shine with ground seating available on grass and very limited chair seating on the surrounding brick areas.  Admission is $5 per person and includes an entry for live entertainment, giveaways, and all event festivities. Children five and under are free. The series continues with the true story of “Hidden Figures” on July 8, animated hit “Moana” on July 15, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” on July 22 and the 1971 classic “Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory” starring Gene Wilder on July 29. August showings include “Raiders of the Lost Ark” on Aug. 5, animated sensation “Finding Dory” on Aug. 12 and the 2016 breakout musical “La La Land” on Aug. 19.  In true Fairhaven Outdoor Cinema tradition, “The Princess Bride” will be featured at the series finale on Aug. 26. The Fairhaven Outdoor Cinema will include a fun selection of entertainment prior to each outdoor showing this summer. From live music to circus variety shows the schedule includes a diverse selection of performers. Three nights offer live music by acts including “The Brass Patriots 133rd Army Band” on July 1, local acoustic duo “The Sweet Goodbyes” on July 8, and one-man touring musician “Brian Ernst” on Aug. 12. Two events include dance entertainment with “Aloha Hula NW” on July 15 and “Bellingham Dance Company” showing their moves on Aug. 19. And three performances will feature Bellingham Circus Guild entertainers including the ever-popular “Strangely” on July 22, “Wren & Della” on Aug. 5, and “Claymazing” at the series finale. More information about movies, entertainment and event times can be found at www.FairhavenOutdoorCinema.com or www.facebook.com/FairhavenOutdoorCinema.         We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
