Limited Online Release of Bellingham Based Feature Film

Embracing the pause, a local Bellingham production company brings their feature film Just Like The Men, an adaptation of a silent film written by Ella Higginson in 1914, to the digital screen – online.

  • A true story of women in Washington state politics
  • Female-majority production based in Whatcom County

May 10th – July 5th 2020 Talking To Crows is making their feature film, Just Like The Men, available as a 48-hour rental on Vimeo beginning Mother’s day.

Originally written by Bellingham local, Ella Higginson, the screenplay satirizes Ella’s real-life experience helping her friend (another Bellingham local) Frances Axtell run for legislative office in 1912 shortly after women received the right to vote in Washington State. Frances went on to become one of the first women to hold office in Washington state.

Just Like Men Talking To Crows 2020

Considering the impact the film festival industry has felt and will continue to feel over the coming year, TTC made the decision to launch a limited release of their film to raise awareness of their project and create a space for their film to gain exposure during this unprecedented time of sheltering-in-place. Since their early days of production, TTC had planned for a 2020 release, coinciding with the centennial of women’s suffrage taking place this year. During this necessary pause, it is TTC’s goal to entertain their audience with this project that’s been five years in the making while continuing to pursue distribution that will help support this timely, and necessary film about women infiltrating politics.

About Talking To Crows: Talking To Crows is a diverse team of artists, writers, and performers driven to capture the human experience through their creative lense. Ranging from multimedia animation, comedy shorts, to social justice photojournalism campaigns, TTC tackles a range of aesthetics and topics. While TTC is in constant pursuit of producing long-form media, the company has collaborated with many individuals in the community on a variety of commercial projects.
