Whatcom County Public Works is holding a campaign to name the County's new paint striping truck. The campaign asks community members to use their cleverness and imagination to create names and submit them by Sunday, April 16, 2023.
Public Works employees have offered some creative names to choose from, but the community is encouraged to contribute their own suggestions related to painting, paint & paint brushes, and road lane lines. The top names will be submitted to the Whatcom County Public Works Maintenance & Operations crew for final selection. The winning moniker will be featured on the new paint striping truck and used in the department's outreach efforts.
Whatcom County Public Works was inspired by the numerous snow plow naming contests nationwide, including in the City of Ferndale. While these campaigns are lighthearted and fun, they have a serious purpose behind them: delivering important messaging about roadway safety in a way that helps draw the public's attention.
Every year Whatcom County Public Works re-stripes over 1,300 lane miles of county roadway. This fresh coat of reflective paint helps drivers see travel lanes clearly during dark or rainy conditions. During road striping season, messages about where and when lane striping will occur and safe driving tips around equipment are part of the department's outreach efforts.
Whatcom County Public Works will share additional information on its social media pages during the campaign and once the new name is selected. Follow the department on Facebook and Twitter.
