Demo Derby and Rodeo Return to Offer Action-Filled Performances at Lynden Fair

A pair of action-packed events, the Northwest Washington Fair’s Demolition Derby and the Lynden PRCA Rodeo, return to the Bank of the Pacific Grandstand Entertainment Series during this year’s Fair Aug. 13-18. Competitors looking for hard-hitting collisions more than drivers in a Seattle commute will compete in this year’s Demo Derby on Monday, Aug. 13. Grandstand tickets are $10 for the 12:30 p.m. show and $18 for the 7:30 p.m. show. Tickets for the public go on sale at 9 a.m. Thursday, June 14 at the fair office, 1775 Front St., Lynden, or by visiting www.nwwafair.com or calling (360) 354-4111. Gate admission isn’t included in the grandstand ticket prices but is required. Tough and talented cowboys in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association will compete in the 14th annual Lynden PRCA Rodeo, scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 14-15. Lynden PRCA Rodeo events include bull riding, bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, tie-down roping, team roping and barrel racing. Youth 10 and younger will be admitted for free to the grandstand when in possession of a Free Youth Rodeo Ticket, which can be picked up at the fair office or CHS Northwest locations. Rodeo tickets will cost $15 apiece at the gate but can be purchased for $12 in advance through Aug. 12 at CHS Northwest retail locations in Lynden, Everson, Nooksack, Ferndale and Bellingham. Rodeo tickets don’t include gate admission to the fair, which is required. VIP packages for the evening demo derby show and both rodeo performances are available. The Rodeo’s Aug. 14 show will be part of the Tough Enough to Wear Pink campaign. Contestants, volunteers and spectators are encouraged to “wear pink” to raise awareness of breast cancer while local rodeo volunteers conduct fundraisers. Last year the Tough Enough to Wear Pink program in Lynden donated $42,000 to the PeaceHealth St. Joseph Cancer Center in Bellingham for cancer patient care and research. Tickets for the Bank of the Pacific Grandstand Entertainment Series already are on sale for legendary rocker Bret Michaels on Aug. 16, rising country brother duo High Valley on Aug. 17 and nationally renowned comedian Jeff Foxworthy on Aug. 18.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
