Vision and Voices Series: Forgotten Films from Cinema's Women Directors

VISIONS & VOICES: Forgotten Films from Cinema's Women Directors is a silent film series presented by CASCADIA International Women’s Film Festival in Bellingham, WA. We are currently one of only two film festivals in the United States that exclusively feature women-directed films. The series takes place monthly beginning Dec. 2, 2018 through Mar. 8, 2019. VISIONS & VOICES will sample a variety of short films from "Pioneers: First Women Filmmakers," a collection of historical films recently curated by Kino Lorber distribution company and the Library of Congress. The four-part series will include a variety of features and short films ranging from slapstick comedies to melodramas and thrillers--all from female directors. The first of these will be "The Blot" from 1921 and "Suspense" from 1913 both by Lois Weber to be shown at 2 p.m., Sunday, December 2 at the Studio Theatre in the Sylvia Center for the Arts, 205 Prospect Street, Bellingham. Audience members will be invited to participate in a Q&A event after each film with Whatcom Community College film studies professor Susan Lonac. Films for subsequent showings will be announced and will take place at the following locations and times: Sunday, Dec. 2: Studio Theatre in the Sylvia Center for the Arts, 205 Prospect Street, Bellingham, 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6:  Mount Baker Theatre, 104 N. Commercial St., Bellingham, 2 p.m. (tickets must be purchased at https://mountbakertheatre.com) Friday, Feb. 1: Jansen Art Center, 321 Front St., Lynden, 7 p.m. Friday, Mar. 8: Firehouse Cafe, 1314 Harris Ave., Bellingham, 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 general / $5 students with ID and available at Brown Paper Tickets.
