An Evening with Director Catherine Hardwicke

Catherine Hardwicke's film, Twilight broke box office records as the highest-ever opening weekend gross at the time for a live-action female-directed film. Her film remains in the top 10 for highest grossing women directed films.

CASCADIA International Women’s Film Festival presents, “An Evening with Director Catherine Hardwicke" as its 2024 Honored Guest program. Learn how Hardwicke prepares before she ever says "Action" during a 90-minute presentation with clips from her films to illustrate her filmmaking process.

Hardwicke made her directorial debut with the acclaimed 2003 film Thirteen and has gone on to be one of Hollywood’s most respected women directors. She has tackled almost every genre imaginable–drama, action, comedy and even a Biblical epic. As an outpsoken champion for women in the film industry she lobbies relentlessly for women directors and to bring more female talent to the forefront.

A ticketed meet and greet dessert reception, with cash bar, for Hardwicke will follow.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
