The Salmon Seeker's Guide to Whatcom County

It is well known that salmon are essential to local cultures, environments, and economies in the PNW, but unless you know where and when to look you may never see them out in the wild! In this session, NSEA’s stewardship program manager, Sarah Brown, will showcase some of the publicly available online resources, including data from NSEA’s new Salmon Spotters community science project, that you can use to better understand where and when you can see salmon in Whatcom County. We will also cover the basics of how to identify the different species of Pacific salmon, a brief overview of the different watersheds near us, and how you can support the recovery of wild salmon for future generations.

Pack your lunch and join us on Friday, June 20th in person at NSEA’s campus or online via Zoom. This workshop will last from 12 – 1 PM, and staff will be available until 1:30 PM for additional discussion and Q&A.

Coffee, tea, and water provided. RSVP required.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
