Primo Lara, a native of Guanajuato, Mexico, developed a deep love of the music of Veracruz where he learned to play the traditional instruments of Son Jarocho music. His gifted performances are rhythmically sophisticated and consistently engaging. Son Jarocho is a part of the Caribbean music culture of Veracruz, Mexico with clear links to neighboring Afro-Caribbean music, featuring the the instrumentation of requinto, leona, jarana and cajón. Corazones de Cedro features Primo Lara (requinto, vocals); Kate Conway (jarana, vocals); Ryan Chase (leona); Steve Jones (cajón, bombo).
