Announcing the Winners of Visit Bellingham Whatcom County's Holiday Gingerbread Contest

Thank you to Whatcom County bakers who submitted holiday gingerbread creations for the virtual contest from Bellingham Whatcom County Tourism! We have two winners to announce who shared joy from their home kitchens: The Pitsch Family, and Janet Boyhan.

The Pitsch Family: "This year instead of seeing the Nutcracker in person at our favorite theater, we decided to make our own Mount Baker Theatre. Then we danced off our sugar cookie rush in the safety of our own home.”

Janet Boyhan: "For what it's worth, there is no metal or wood structure within my gingerbread to hold up or shape my rocking horse."

Each winner received a $100 ThinkLocalFirst gift card to spend at participating local Whatcom County businesses. The ThinkLocalFirst card helps ensure our local retail stores, restaurants, delivery services, and hotels get our local patronage during this challenging economic period.

Special thanks as well to the following community organizations who offered to judge: Whatcom County Health Department, with a mission to lead the community in promoting health and preventing disease so that all people in our community have the opportunities they need to thrive in a safe and healthy environment. Whatcom County Lodging Association, a group of hospitality professionals who believe that collectively they can do amazing things to further the hospitality industry.

Bellingham Whatcom County Tourism is an independent, 501 (c) (6) nonprofit, economic development organization whose purpose is to improve the economy by marketing Bellingham Whatcom County as a premier, year-round visitor, sports, outdoor recreation, arts and cultural, and meetings destination, which supports all travel, tourism, and hospitality businesses and nonprofits in Whatcom County.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
