Bellingham’s Second Annual Cider Tasting Festival Raises Funds for Shifting Gears

On October 4, Bellingham’s nonprofit Shifting Gears will host Sippin’ on Cider: A Bellingham Cider Tasting Festival at Lost Giants Cider Company from 5 to 10 p.m. The event will feature ciders from various Pacific Northwest cideries, performances from local bands, and food from Bellingham-based food trucks. The event is 21+. Tickets cost $25 before September 29, and $30 week-of.

Entertainment showcases Whatcom-county based bands The Yankee Drivers and High Mountain String Band, and food vendors Sage Against the Machine, Kid Sister Food Truck and Kurly’s Kart. Though it is not required, the event suggests bringing out one’s innermost ‘Belling-hipster’.

“It was exciting to see how many people gathered around cider in Sippin’ On Cider’s first year,” says Cider Coordinator, Kari Humphreys. “We are excited to see what’s in store for everyone this October, and continue to be thrilled that the cider community is coming together to share their craft and benefit a great cause!”

Local cideries attending the event include Renaissance Orchards, Herb’s Cider, Bellingham Cider Co, Lost Giants Cider Co, Tieton Cider Works, Schilling Cider, Reverend Nat’s Hard Cider, Finnriver, 2 Towns Ciderhouse, and Soundbite Cider. Each drink ticket comes with one 4oz taster glass and three drink tickets.

“We’re also pretty excited about the activities we’ll have going during the event. We’ve got field games, a photobooth, and even outdoor living rooms that we’re calling ‘Apple Lounges’.” says Board President, Jenny Schmidt. “With the fall season upon us, the second annual Sippin’ on Cider Festival will surely be an event to remember.”
