Restaurants Reducing Waste and Giving Free Dining Kits with To-Go Orders

Sustainable Connections announces a new program to help Whatcom County restaurants provide alternatives to plastic utensils, individually packaged condiments, Styrofoam, and other single-use items often used with to-go orders.

The program, Where To Go With To-Go, helps restaurants determine the right materials to use with their to-go orders and promotes restaurants that pledge to reduce their to-go waste. So far, 34 restaurants are participating in the program and are offering alternatives such as compostable sip lids instead of straws.

To kick off the program, on Friday, March 19 and Saturday, March 20, select restaurants will be handing out FREE dining kits with to-go orders. The kits contain metal utensils, a stainless-steel straw, and a straw cleaner in a handy carrying pouch. Visit Sustainable Connections’ website to view participating restaurants and grab your dining pouch while supplies last.

Restaurants who would like to participate in the program or learn more about how they can reduce waste are encouraged to contact AbbieL@SustainableConnections.org.
