Summer Arts Courses for Youth at BAAY

Announcing BAAY’s 2020 summer season, COVID edition! Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth staff have come up with a raft of creative courses to stretch imaginative horizons, expand expressive potential, and learn some cool new skills. It won’t be business as usual — social distancing requirements mean we’ve shifted our focus to smaller class sizes and content that can be adapted for online instruction as necessary. Students will learn about costuming, theatre tech, makeup and special effects, dance, acting, stage combat, vocal performance, Shakespeare, audition techniques, play devising, and more! We have lots of options, so students can sign up for multiple classes and spend more of their summer with friends at BAAY.

All classes will be conducted via Zoom during Phase 2 of COVID-19 restrictions. In-person instruction will begin when Whatcom County is approved for Phase 3 of the Safe Start Washington protocol. Our first priority is for the health and safety of our students and staff. We will enforce strict standards of hygiene and social distancing when we are finally able to be together again. Class sizes are limited, so families are encouraged to register early to reserve their space!

  • About BAAY: BAAY’s mission is to enrich children’s lives through the exploration of the arts. We believe that the arts are a basic and essential component of all children’s education. We serve approximately 1400 children ages 3-17 annually in our Preschool, EduArts and Theatre programs, and provide over $30,000 a year in annual scholarship assistance to remove financial barriers to participation. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, school closures, and stay at home orders, the need for creative expression and community engagement is more important than ever. Learn how you can support the sustainability of this work at baay.org/donate.
