Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center: October is Community Conflict Resolution Month

The Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center (WDRC) invites the Bellingham community to join in recognition of October 2018 as Community Conflict Resolution Month.

City of Bellingham Mayor Kelli Linville and Whatcom County Executive Jack Louws have signed a Joint Proclamation recognizing October 2018 as Community Conflict Resolution Month. Governor Jay Inslee has also signed a similar proclamation for Washington State. Around the world, the third Thursday in October (October 18, 2018) is celebrated as Conflict Resolution Day.

The WDRC invites community members to commemorate Community Conflict Resolution Month by committing to approaching conflict in constructive and collaborative ways, and by supporting access to low-cost, professional conflict resolution services.

There are a number of ways to participate in Community Conflict Resolution Month:

  • Read the full text of Mayor Linville’s and Executive Louws’s Joint Proclamation online at https://www.whatcomdrc.org/news/2018/8/15/october-is-community-conflict-resolution-month
  • On Thursday, October 18, make a contribution to the WDRC in honor of Conflict Resolution Day
  • On Saturday, October 20, shop at the Community Food Co-op, where 2% of all purchases made that day will benefit the WDRC
  • All month long, when shopping at the Community Food Co-op, round-up at the register to benefit the WDRC
  • Follow the WDRC on Facebook and Twitter throughout the month of October for daily conflict resolution tips and suggestions
  • Sign up for a conflict resolution skills workshop at https://www.whatcomdrc.org/training/
  • Purchase tickets to the WDRC’s 16th Annual Peace Builder Awards (held November 16 at BTC’s Settlemyer Hall), which honors the individuals and groups in Whatcom County who are putting the pieces together for creative conflict resolution in our schools, neighborhoods, and communities. Tickets are available at: https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3613106

The Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center is a nonprofit dedicated to providing and promoting constructive and collaborative approaches to conflict. More information about the WDRC and about Community Conflict Resolution Month can be found online at www.whatcomdrc.org or by calling (360) 676-0122.
