Whatcom Events Announces the Return of Wondermud Aug. 26

Whatcom Events is pleased to announce the return of Wondermud (formerly Muds to Suds)! The family friendly run (for ages 8 and up) will feature 20 obstacles and mud pits that combine athletic stamina and your child hood fantasy of playing in the mud. Participant’s goals; (a) FINISH the course (b) get MUDDY (c) have FUN and conquer all obstacles! The run will take place this year on Saturday, August 26 at Bellingham BMX located at 5022 Guide Meridian. The race will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will leave every 30 minutes until 2:00 pm. Registration is now open and the bargain registration fee also gets runners a T-shirt, a bratwurst provided by Fred Meyer and a root beer float provided by Edaleen Dairy and Boundary Bay. Wondermud is fun for the entire family and costumes are encouraged. We will award prizes for the best family/team costume and the best individual/couple costume. We have chosen Lydia Place as the local charity to donate the proceeds from Wondermud to again this year. Lydia Place has been providing housing case management services to homeless households for 25 years. Lydia Place provides transitional housing, permanent supportive housing services, emergency housing, life skills programs, and case management; and works closely with many community partners to meet the diverse needs of those struggling with homelessness. We believe that housing is a basic human right. We believe that in order for an individual to reach their true potential, this basic human right must be met. We recognize that inequality and oppression exist and are among the root causes of poverty and homelessness. The funds raised from this year’s Wondermud will go to the Lydia Place Transitional Housing Program. Unlike some other family friendly runs and events, the proceeds from Wondermud all stay in our own community. For more information about Wondermud contact Whatcom Events, 360-746-8861.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
