This September, Sustainable Connections invites the community to reconnect to local food by experiencing the abundance of what is grown, raised, harvested, and made right here in Whatcom County and Northwest Washington!
September Eat Local Month is a month‐long celebration of local food producers and food businesses. This is an opportunity for community members and tourists alike to explore new tastes and get up close and personal with those who grow and prepare our food.
September 17th is the return of the beloved Whatcom County Farm Tour! Local farms will swing open their gates to welcome the community to see, taste, feel, and learn hands‐on what goes into local food production. Farms on the tour produce a variety of products including vegetables, beef, pork, eggs & poultry, flowers, dairy, cheese, fruit, and yak. Learn about these and other unique farms, as well as the passion and care that goes into producing local food for our community.
All month long, Bellingham, Whatcom, and Skagit restaurants and breweries will be running Eat Local Month specials! In September, visitors and locals will be able to find locally sourced dishes at all participating locations. Other featured events include SeaFeast, also on September 17th, which showcases Whatcom’s maritime heritage and our internationally renowned fishing and seafood industries. Sustainable Connections will also be celebrating all the opportunities to connect with local farmers markets.
Community members are encouraged to connect via Facebook and Instagram throughout the month of September for chances to win amazing locavore prizes.
