Congregation Beth Israel and the Pickford Film Center are co-presenting The Ancient Law, a 100-year-old silent film, with live music by violinist Alicia Svigals and pianist Donald Sosin.
Baruch, a shtetl rabbi’s son, runs off to Vienna to become an actor. The film portrays how Baruch leaves home against his father’s edict, how Baruch handles the different culture he encounters in Vienna of the 1860s, and how his family must adapt to his transformation.
