On Nov. 9, 2017, the Sustainable Design & Development Conference hosted by Sustainable Connections returns to Bellingham, WA, as one of the premier green building conferences in the Northwest.
This conference focuses on the most advanced measures of sustainability, and embodies the principals of the Living Building Challenge. This year, building professionals of all kinds are invited to explore and discover the challenges and opportunities that exist where the global climate change crisis and the built environment intersect.
The conference will dig into ambitious solutions including rapid market transformation for a net zero carbon built environment, comprehensive social equity, and creating community resilience through grassroots engagement. After attending, conference goers are eligible to receive 12 AIA continuing education units.
A special shoulder session, included in the cost of attendance, will take place on Nov. 8, giving participants hands on experience with using the Living Building Challenge framework to assess the upcoming Bellingham Birchwood Affordable Housing Project. Join the International Living Future Institute, Kulshan Community Land Trust, and Sustainable Connections as they envision a better Birchwood.
“This year we are really excited to not only be looking at deep green building through a social equity lens, but also to be able to apply what we’re learning in a real world context during the shoulder session that will look at the Birchwood housing project.” said Rose Lathrop, Green Building & Smart Growth Manager for Sustainable Connections. “Every year this conference grows in its ability to offer meaningful and impactful speakers and sessions and this year is no exception.”
Early bird registration costs $135 and ends Oct. 15. The 2017 Sustainable Design & Development Conference is a Sustainable Connections event and will be held 8 am to 4:30 p.m. at Bellingham Technical College, Settelmeyer Hall, 3028 Lindbergh Avenue, Bellingham, WA 98225. Visit the Sustainable Connections webpage for more information at sustainableconnections.org.
The Sustainable Design & Development Conference is sponsored by Belling-Wood Depot, Sazan Group, The Bullitt Foundation, AIA Northwest Washington, Small Planet Supply, and Greenhome Solutions.
