A Natural Choice: Scenic Activities in Bellingham/Whatcom County

I hear a loud whoosh, and when I look up, I see the Schooner Zodiac's four sails billowing as they catch the wind. Soon we are moving at 13 knots on the Salish Sea. The tall ship, with 12-story-high mainmast, gracefully courses through the water as it takes us on a journey past rugged islands with thick forest and near rocky outcroppings with basking seals... Lauren Kramer describes Bellingham and Whatcom County outdoor adventures in Alaska Airlines Beyond Magazine, including: Schooner Zodiac, Bagley Lakes Trail, Interurban Trail, Chuckanut Drive, Fairhaven, Golfing, Whale Watching, Bird Watching, Western Gallery Public Sculpture Collection, and Whatcom Museum Maritime History Gallery.         We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
