The Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce invites families from throughout the region to the annual Kid’s Kite Festival at Birch Bay State Park, Saturday, June 20 from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday, June 21 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This free family-friendly event is filled with colorful skies, entertainment, activities, and unforgettable memories.

The Kid’s Kite Festival celebrates the joy of outdoor fun by providing hundreds of free kites to children and families, giving attendees the chance to experience the excitement of watching their kites soar above Birch Bay State Park.

New for 2026 is the exciting addition of the Kid’s Makers Market, where young entrepreneurs can create, showcase, and sell their own handmade items. The Makers Market will operate Noon to 3:00 PM each day, offering children a unique opportunity to learn creativity, business skills, and entrepreneurship in a fun and supportive environment.

Festival entertainment includes crowd favorite Wren the Juggler, and new this year, The Wagon of Whimsey, bringing interactive fun throughout the weekend. Families can also enjoy activities presented by Blaine Birch Bay Park and Recreation District 2, Heart of Play, North Bay Community Church, and Friends of Birch Bay Library. Craft vendors and food vendors will be onsite, creating a festive atmosphere for all ages.

“The Kid’s Kite Festival has become one of Birch Bay’s signature family events and continues to grow each year,” said Sacha Sanguinetti, Event Coordinator for the Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce. “From flying kites over The Bay to enjoying quality time together, this event creates meaningful memories while also bringing visitors to Birch Bay and supporting our local economy.”

Admission is free and open to the public. A Washington State Discover Pass is required for licensed vehicle entry to Birch Bay State Park. Pedestrians, golf carts and bicycles do not need a pass. WTA will be offering extra service on Saturday, June 20 for Kite Festival attendees.

The event is made possible in part by a tourism promotion grant from Whatcom County and a community support grant from Blaine Birch Bay Park and Recreation District 2.

About Birch Bay State Park

Birch Bay State Park is a scenic marine state park located along the shores of Birch Bay in northwest Washington. Known for its wide-open waterfront, beach access, natural beauty, and family-friendly amenities, the park offers opportunities for outdoor recreation including beach exploration, picnicking, camping, wildlife viewing, and community events. Birch Bay State Park serves as a valued gathering place for residents and visitors experiencing the beauty of Whatcom County’s coastline.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
