Boundary Bay Brewery from Bellingham, Wash. is proud to announce that their barleywine-style ale, Old Bounder won the Silver medal in the American Barley Wine-Style Ale category at North American Brewers Association (NABA) awards in June, marking the 51st NABA award the brewery has received. The ale also won the Bronze award at the 2018 World Beer Cup in May.
“It’s an honor for Old Bounder to receive this recognition,” said Head Brewer Steve Ellison. “We strive to create unique brews that can also showcase traditional styles of beer. We feel Old Bounder achieves this.”
Old Bounder is warm and full-bodied with toffee and plum flavors and a stone-fruit aroma. The barleywine is brewed with 2-Row Pale, Munich, Carastan and Vienna hops.
In addition to these awards, Boundary Bay was recognized as the tenth largest individual-site brewpub in the nation, and the largest brewpub in Washington State, according to statistics released by the Brewers Association this year. A brewpub is defined as a restaurant-brewery that sells at least 25 percent of its beer on site. The statistics were published in the May/June issue of The New Brewer.
