Celebrate Eat Local Month this August with a Virtual Farm Tour, Farm Stand Loop, and Weekly Celebrations

Sustainable Connections is hosting a month-long celebration in Whatcom County this August to explore and enjoy the bounty of local food with an annual Eat Local Month celebration. Each week, the community is invited to celebrate four industries of our region’s local food system: farmers, restaurants, markets, and seafood producers.

Farm Week: August 1–8

Whatcom County Virtual Farm Tour

When: Thursday, August 6, 6 p.m.
Cost: Free
VIP pass: $15 donation with exclusive freebies and offers at farms featured in August.
Description: Meet your farmers, and learn how to GET A TASTE! Join us for our keynote event, a virtual Whatcom County Farm Tour, right from the comfort of your own home, followed by a conversation with local farmers answering questions from the community, and sharing their stories, struggles, and joys of farming.

Seafood Week: August 23–29

Meet your local fishers, learn about our region’s rich seafood offerings, and GET A TASTE! For the past 12 years, Sustainable Connections has hosted Eat Local Month events and activities to connect people with food that is grown, raised, harvested, and made right here in Whatcom, Skagit, San Juan, and Island counties. In response to the effects of the COVID-19 crisis, Sustainable Connections is reimagining Eat Local Month in a way that promotes the safety and wellbeing of our community, while also creating new opportunities for fun and community connection.

The community is encouraged to learn more about Eat Local Month, get a digital passport, and enter to win tasty local food prizes, by visiting eatlocalfirst.org for details.
