New Cascade Peaks IPA Series from Kulshan Brewing

With the North Cascades right at their back door, it’s quite fitting that the newest line of IPAs released by the Kulshan Brewing Company is named the Cascade Peaks IPA Series. On Friday, August 31, 2018 Kulshan kicked off the series with Bellingham’s favorite Heliotrope IPA, released earlier this summer on draft only. Each beer in the Cascade Peaks series will be packaged in 500 ml bottles and available on tap at the Roosevelt location, also known as “K2.” Local beer drinkers can now look forward to a new and unique release just about every other month. “This IPA series is a great opportunity for us to experiment with new hop varieties and cutting-edge brewing techniques,” said Wesley Finger, Head Brewer for Kulshan Brewing. “We’re not reinventing the wheel here but we are definitely pushing the boundaries and getting outside of our comfort zone. We’ve been having fun experimenting with flaked rice and wheat, unmalted barley and fruit infusions, all ingredients that we don’t normally use in our standard IPA recipe.” Following the 500 ml release of Heliotrope look for the Eldorado Brut IPA, Forbidden Hazy IPA, and Bonanza Brut IPA, which will be infused with blood oranges and cranberries just in time for the holiday season. For the mountain enthusiasts out there, these beer names may sound familiar. From its inception, Kulshan Brewing Co. has long pulled inspiration from the rugged peaks of the Cascades beginning with its namesake, Koma Kulshan, meaning Mt. Baker. This series aims to pay tribute to a handful of prominent peaks within the range that Kulshan employees know and love. Each new beer in the series will be a short run and available for a limited time in the Kulshan taprooms and in select stores around the North Sound. ABOUT KULSHAN BREWING COMPANY Founded in 2012 by Bellingham native David Vitt, they are one of the fastest-growing breweries in Whatcom County, highly regarded for making delicious and well-balanced ales and lagers. Just one year after opening, they doubled the size of the brewhouse to 15 barrels in order to keep up with demand. In 2015 they opened a second brewery in the Roosevelt neighborhood, affectionately named “K2,” in Bellingham with a 30-barrel brewhouse. They have a strong following for their extensive line of award-winning beers.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
