The Chrysalis Inn & Spa Celebrates 25th Anniversary!

This April marks the 25th anniversary of The Chrysalis Inn & Spa on the waterfront in Fairhaven. Designed by architect Regan McClellen, built by Pearson Construction, and opened in 2001 by local owner Mike Keenan, the boutique hotel, now a part of Hilton’s Curio Collection, continues to be an iconic destination for out-of-town visitors and Whatcom County residents alike.

“I came to Bellingham in 1998 to retire, but when I saw this property overlooking the water, I knew it would be the perfect place for a boutique hotel,” says Keenan, who still owns The Chrysalis, along with other hotels in Nebraska.

To celebrate the silver anniversary, the hotel will be offering a gift card special of a $25 bonus coupon for every $100 gift card purchased. Both can be redeemed in the hotel, spa, or Keenan’s at the Pier restaurant. In the spa, all facials of 60 minutes or more will enjoy a $25 discount. Both promotions are available April 1-30, 2026.

From the hotel site’s original use as a coal mine, then a salmon cannery and Texaco, to the construction of The Chrysalis, the history will be on display in the hotel lobby, along with a sneak peek at a design refresh to be completed in June of 2027.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
