We heART commUNITY Fundraiser Supports Whatcom Arts Venues

Arts organizations are a vital thread in the fabric of Bellingham and Whatcom County. As the Covid-19 pandemic hit in March 2020, these performance spaces, galleries and events were in the middle of their busy seasons and had to abruptly shut down. Within days, numerous entities banded together for moral support and created the Whatcom Arts Project to continue their seasons online. Our arts venues united in their desire to uplift our community. Now we, the community, have an opportunity to uplift our arts venues.

A new collective fundraiser asks individuals to choose 5 Whatcom County arts organizations and donate $50 to each for a total donation of $250. This plea to support unity and show love to the entire art community is aptly titled We heART commUNITY.

We heART commUNITY

Participation is easy. Click on the We heART commUNITY Donation Form and choose 5 of the 14 arts organizations listed below. Donations will be collected by Allied Arts of Whatcom County and automatically remitted to the arts venues of choice.

To further show your love for our local arts, the first 100 donors to the campaign will receive a commemorative We heART commUNITY tote bag designed by Riley Currie and manufactured locally by Red Boots Design.

Sylvia Center for the Arts was founded with the mission to provide an affordable venue for performing arts in Whatcom County. Each season offers a dizzying array of productions from both our in-house production company, iDiOM Theater (including many performances that are free to the public), and other local organizations dedicated to creating world-class performing arts right here in Northwest Washington. We work to bring down barriers to arts education by offering scholarships for youth and adult classes.

While we create art for the community, we create community around art. Sylvia Center nurtures a diverse and inclusive community of artists, volunteers, spectators, and supporters. We offer a space where emerging artists can take risks, and bring new works to light.

The world we want to live in is not going to be handed to us. It’s up to us to create it, and keep creating.
