Whatcom Community Foundation Grant Applications Open

The Whatcom Community Foundation’s annual Funds for Whatcom County grant round is open for applications. The non-renewable grants of up to $10,000 are meant to support relative and timely activities that take a cooperative approach to building community connections, affordable housing, arts and culture, economic development, education, environment, food and agriculture, and health and wellness in Whatcom.

The Community Foundation invites creativity and imagination in the preparation of the grant requests. Applications are due by 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1.  Visit grant guidelines for ideas and eligibility, and review the online grants portal instructions.

Last year, projects that received funding ranged from North Cascades Institute’s Youth Leadership Adventures to a program connecting Ferndale sixth graders with elders for tech support; the Bellingham Downtown Partnership’s alley activation project to teen parent education through Brigid Collins house and the Bellingham School District. In all, 34 organizations received funding totaling more than $250,000. View a summary here

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
