With a beautiful sound and elegance reminiscent of great violinists of the past, Arnaud Sussmann solos on Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5 (Turkish), one of Mozart’s most popular works. Sussmann performs on a 1760 Landolfi violin. Landolfi is widely considered to be one of the top luthiers in history, along with Stradivarius and Guarneri.
“The Turkish Concerto is one of the most imaginative pieces in our repertoire with its unusual sounds and exotic accents,” says Music Director Yaniv Attar. “I know our audience will be captivated by the unique Concerto and compelled by Arnaud Sussmann’s talent.”
We will follow with Weber's Overture to Oberon, which made its 20th-century debut with the Metropolitan Opera in 1918 and concludes with Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphosis on Themes, which Hindemith based directly on incidental music composed by Weber. Nearly 10 years after its premiere, George Balanchine later choreographed Hindemith’s work for the New York City Ballet, then titled Metamorphoses.
