Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth Presents: The Firebird, Feb. 1 - 3 and 8 - 10

BAAY Theatre in Bellingham WA Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth presents a theatrical adaptation of the Slavic folktale, The Firebird in Feb. 2019. A long time ago, in a distant land far from here, lived a Tsar named Vyslav. After catching glimpses of a magical creature whose feathers light up the sky, Vyslav sends his three sons on a quest to find this bird, offering half his kingdom as a reward. His youngest son Ivan ventures off alone until he meets Marina “the warrior maiden” and her talking wolf sidekick. Together they face rivers of fire, evil witches and wizards, and epic battle scenes to retrieve the firebird. Things aren’t always as they seem in this new telling of the classic tale. The Firebird is performed by a cast ages 9-12 and directed by Ian Bivins with Jack Eiford. Performances are February 1-3 and 8-10 at the BAAY Theatre. Performances take place on the following dates and times:

Founded in 2006, Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth is a nonprofit arts education organization that offers quality instruction in theater, choir, dance, music, and visual arts to youth, ages 5-17. A beloved fixture in Bellingham's thriving arts community, the organization has produced over 100 musicals to date. In addition, BAAY strives to reach new members of the community through its other two branches: the BAAY Preschool (baay.org/preschool) and the BAAY EduArts enrichment program (baay.org/eduarts), which offers over 20 arts classes per quarter to elementary students throughout Whatcom County.
