The Seattle section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) has recognized Waypoint Park in Bellingham with a 2019 Local Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award. Gina Austin, Parks Project Engineer accepted the award on behalf of the City of Bellingham at a ceremony in Seattle on June 12, 2019.

This is the second award for Waypoint Park, the City's first new park in the Waterfront District. ASCE represents more than 150,000 members of the civil engineering profession in 177 countries and is the nation’s oldest engineering society. ASCE is also the world’s largest publisher of civil engineering content and an authoritative source for codes and standards that protect the public.
The annual ASCE awards recognize outstanding projects in the categories of Geotechnical, Structural, Ports and Waterways, Water Resources, Transportation and Development, and Small Project and Non-Construction Studies.
