Birch Bay Derby Day, Join the Fun August 29!
It’s a full day of friendly competition and unique Birch Bay fun! Derby Day is Saturday, August 29, featuring activities throughout the day for participants and spectators alike.
This year starts with the Friends of Birch Bay Library Pinewood Derby bringing this classic tradition to the bay at 11:00 AM.
From 1:00–3:00 PM, the action moves to the Bicycle & Golf Cart Poker Run along Birch Bay Drive. Participants will make their way along the route to collect cards and build their best poker hand, with prizes awarded to the top 3.
One of Birch Bay’s favorite traditions returns from 4:00–7:00 PM with the Billy Brown Crab Derby. Crabbers are invited to bring in their catch to be weighed, with prizes awarded in three categories: Largest Limit, Largest Crab and Largest Red Rock Crab. Whether you’ve spent the day out on the water chasing the winning catch or just want to see what’s hauled in, the Crab Derby is a celebration of one of the activities that makes life on the bay special.
The day culminates at 6:00 PM with the Duck Derby presented by Friends of Birch Bay Library on Terrell Creek. Rubber ducks take to the water and race upstream with the incoming tide toward the finish line as spectators gather along the course to cheer them on.
