The multi-media exhibition Elevation: The Art of Cascadia returns to Bellingham in February 2017 at venues scattered through downtown and Fairhaven. This community-wide celebration of nature-inspired art, which had a wildly successful debut in 2016, features exhibitions, performances, workshops and the Recreation Northwest Expo. Elevation highlights include: Thursday, February 2 at 6:30 pm: Cascadia Dreams, a multimedia performance at the Pickford Film Center featuring a stunning photographic journey through the heart of our luminous landscapes accompanied by a live musical performance by Gary Stroutsos, master of the Native American flute. Tickets at http://www.pickfordfilmcenter.org/ Friday, February 3 at 6:00 pm: Photography Exhibition and Community Celebration at the Old Bellingham National Bank Building (Holly & Cornwall) featuring 14 of the region's finest nature photographers, live music by Bilongo and fresh ale from Kulshan Brewing. This exhibition will be open to the public through February 28 Saturday, February 4 at 10am: Plein Air Painting Workshop at Allied Arts Gallery. Join Plein Air painters Michael Heath and Tom McCalla for an introduction to the subtle pleasures of plein air painting techniques. Saturday, February 4 at 1pm: Quicksilver Tour/Q&A at Quicksilver Photo Lab. Take a peek behind the scenes at Quicksilver Photo Lab and see the magic of how your images are brought to life. A quick tour of the facilities, and your questions answered by owner Jeff Daffron. Saturday, February 4 at 2pm: Slideshow: Georgia Pacific - History and Demolition at Old BNB Building. Tore Ofteness exhaustively documented the Georgia Pacific Mill that once dominated the Bellingham Waterfront - as well as its ultimate destruction. His images span decades and eloquently speak to the relentless impacts of a changing world. Saturday, February 4 at 3:30pm: Slideshow: Allure of the Owl at Allied Arts Gallery. Dick McNeely's photography is for the birds. Literally. His work has appeared in Birds of British Columbia and other publications. Join him for a slide show on the wing. Saturday, February 4 at 7pm: Earth (Soundings of the Planet) at Old BNB Building. A special screening of the video, 4 Earth: Scenic Vistas of Ocean, Stream, River, Pond by Dean & Dudley Evenson. These intimate video portraits of the natural world follow the cycle of water as it moves from the North Cascades to the Salish Sea. Saturday, February 25 at 1:00 pm: Recreation Northwest Expo at the Bellingham Cruise Terminal, 355 Harris Ave. in Fairhaven. Northwest Washington's largest outdoor recreation event features outdoor recreation organizations, gear purveyors, health and wellness professionals, stewardship organizations and the outdoor media.
