Wilderness First Aid Certification Course

Western Washington University's Outdoor Center is excited to partner with the Wilderness Medicine Training Center (WMTC) to offer first aid certification to the community. This three-day course will take place from Sept. 5-7, 2025 at the Lakewood Watersports Facility on the shores of Lake Whatcom.

Participants will learn the essentials of responding to medical emergencies in the backcountry, an important skillset for being as prepared and safe as possible on your outdoor adventures. Successful completion of the course will result in Wilderness First Aid certification, recognized by employers and a great resume booster. This event is open to anyone in the greater Bellingham community, with discounts available for WWU students, staff, and faculty.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
