Introduction to Cedar Weaving

Join Lisa Telford, a Gawa Git’ans Git’anee Haida weaver, for a one-day introduction to cedar weaving. Lisa will walk participants through weaving their own miniature berry basket necklace to take home. Created from locally harvested red and yellow cedar bark, these necklaces are a wonderful introduction to the weaving traditions of the Northwest Coast.
After the workshop, visit the Whatcom Museum’s People of the Sea and Cedar exhibition where Lisa’s baskets are on display. Lisa has more than 25 years of weaving experience, and her baskets may be seen in the collections of the Oregon Historical Society, Hallie Ford Museum of Art, National Museum of the American Indian, Heard Museum, Portland Art Museum, and Burke Museum.
Class registration fees include admission to the Whatcom Museum and all materials needed to weave a berry basket necklace. Please bring a packed lunch or prepare to purchase lunch out during the workshop.
